Hastings, NE – Residents in Adams County are waking up to a bitter cold start this week, with temperatures dipping into the teens overnight before a dramatic warm-up arrives by midweek, according to the National Weather Service in Hastings.

At 2:53 a.m. CST, conditions at Hastings Municipal Airport showed a frigid 16°F, with a northwest wind near 6 mph and a wind chill of 7°F. Skies will remain mostly clear overnight, allowing lows to reach around 14°F before rebounding Monday afternoon to a sunny 43°F.

By Veterans Day, much warmer air will move into the region, pushing highs to near 68°F under clear skies. The warming trend will continue through the week, with highs in the 60s and mid-70s expected by Thursday and Friday.

Forecasters say the sharp temperature swing marks a shift away from the Arctic air mass that gripped the Central Plains this weekend. Winds will remain light and variable through Monday, gradually shifting south and southwest by evening.

Residents are advised to continue protecting outdoor pipes and sensitive plants overnight, as another frosty morning is expected before the extended stretch of sunshine begins.
