Hastings, NE – Drivers in central Nebraska face low visibility and slick roads this morning due to dense freezing fog, with a Dense Fog Advisory in effect until 8 a.m. The advisory impacts portions of north-central Kansas and central Nebraska, including Hastings, Grand Island, and Kearney. Residents should use headlights, slow down, and maintain safe distances when driving, as visibility is reduced to a quarter mile or less.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, freezing fog may leave a light glaze of ice on untreated roads, bridges, and sidewalks, creating hazardous conditions. Widespread dense fog will begin to lift by late morning, leading to partly sunny skies and highs near 46°F today. Winds will remain light, from the southeast at 5 to 10 mph.
Tonight, skies will clear with temperatures dropping to a low of 29°F. Monday will bring sunny conditions and slightly warmer temperatures, with highs reaching 49°F. Winds will shift to the northwest at 5 to 15 mph, gusting up to 25 mph during the day. Monday night will see mostly clear skies, but temperatures will plummet to around 27°F.
The week ahead will feature colder overnight lows, ranging from the mid-teens to low 20s, while daytime highs remain in the upper 30s to low 50s. Tuesday will be partly sunny, reaching a high of 48°F, followed by a clear but cold night with temperatures dipping to 18°F. By Wednesday, skies will remain sunny with highs in the upper 30s.
