Cheyenne, WY – Residents in western Nebraska should prepare for freezing conditions overnight as the National Weather Service in Cheyenne has upgraded earlier Freeze Watches to Freeze Warnings. The warning is in effect from midnight through 7 a.m. Sunday, October 19, with temperatures expected to fall as low as 21 degrees Fahrenheit.

The alert covers multiple Panhandle communities, including Scottsbluff, Bridgeport, Alliance, and Kimball, where cold air will settle in behind a weekend weather system. The NWS warns that these temperatures could damage unprotected outdoor vegetation, garden plants, and sensitive equipment.

According to forecasters, this marks the coldest air of the season so far for parts of western Nebraska. Residents are advised to cover plants, drain garden hoses, and bring outdoor pets and fragile items indoors ahead of the overnight freeze.

Temperatures are expected to rebound slightly by Sunday afternoon, but another cold morning is possible early next week as clear skies and calm winds persist.
