Charlotte, N.C. – Summer heat will hang over Charlotte through midweek before thunderstorms return late Thursday, bringing a wet stretch that could linger into the weekend. Afternoon highs will reach near 90 degrees Wednesday and Thursday, keeping roadways hot and air conditioners running at full tilt.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, a weak system moves in Thursday night, carrying a 30% chance of thunderstorms and showers. The unsettled weather continues Friday and Saturday, with the highest risk of rain expected during the afternoon and evening hours. Some storms could bring gusty winds and heavy downpours, making travel difficult at times.

Drivers across Mecklenburg County and the I-77 corridor should plan for slick roads and slower commutes late week. Outdoor events and high school football practices could also see interruptions Friday and Saturday if storms intensify. Residents are advised to keep devices charged and move activities indoors as skies darken.

Drier conditions are expected to return by Sunday night into Monday, with highs settling back into the low 80s. Forecasters caution more storm chances could redevelop early next week.
