Kansas City, MO – Strong thunderstorms could bring damaging winds, large hail, and flooding to central and eastern Missouri throughout Sunday, with the most intense weather expected south and east of the Kansas City metro this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, isolated strong storms are possible during the morning hours, but the greatest severe threat will develop between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. for areas including Sedalia, Marshall, Columbia, and Moberly. Affected counties may see wind gusts over 60 mph, isolated tornadoes, and localized flooding, especially east of I-35 where rain totals could top 2 inches.

Marshall and surrounding areas could receive up to 2.8 inches of rain by tonight, raising concerns about flash flooding along low-lying roads and creeks. Highway 65 and portions of I-70 may become hazardous as heavy rain reduces visibility and water covers roadways. Cities like Chillicothe, Kirksville, and Jefferson City should remain alert for sudden downpours and severe storm development during the late afternoon.

Residents are urged to monitor alerts, secure outdoor items, avoid flooded roads, and prepare for potential power outages. Warnings and advisories may be extended into the evening depending on storm development.
