Pleasant Hill, Missouri – Drivers across parts of central and west-central Missouri and east-central Kansas could face difficult travel conditions beginning Friday evening as a winter storm brings accumulating snow into the region. Roads may quickly become slick, with impacts expected to last through late Saturday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Friday evening through late Saturday night. Snow accumulations of up to 5 inches are possible across portions of Missouri and Kansas, enough to significantly impact travel on major highways and secondary roads.
In Missouri, the watch includes Cass, Johnson, Pettis, Cooper, Bates, and Henry counties. Communities such as Belton, Raymore, Pleasant Hill, Harrisonville, Warrensburg, Sedalia, Clinton, Windsor, Butler, and Boonville are all within the potential impact zone. In Kansas, Miami and Linn counties, including Paola, Osawatomie, Louisburg, and La Cygne, could also see accumulating snow.
Travel along U.S. 50, U.S. 65, Missouri Highway 7, and regional routes south of the Kansas City metro may become hazardous as snowfall increases Friday night. Untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses are expected to be the most dangerous, particularly overnight.
Residents are urged to monitor updates, plan ahead for potential travel delays, and avoid unnecessary trips during periods of heavier snow. The Winter Storm Watch remains in effect through late Saturday night, and upgrades to warnings are possible as the storm system draws closer.
