Springfield, MO – A marginal risk for severe thunderstorms will impact central Missouri Thursday afternoon and evening, bringing potential for damaging winds and hail.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop primarily north of Highway 60. Some of these storms may reach severe levels, with hazards including hail up to the size of quarters and wind gusts strong enough to damage property and down trees.
The threat continues through the weekend with an increased risk of severe storms Saturday evening into Sunday across much of southern and eastern Missouri. The greatest uncertainty remains around the strength and timing of weekend systems, but residents are advised to monitor updates closely.
High temperatures will range from the low 70s to mid-80s through Sunday, creating conditions favorable for thunderstorm development. Daily rain chances hover between 20% and 60% depending on location and time of day.
Residents in areas including Springfield, Rolla, and Jefferson City should remain weather-aware, have multiple alert systems in place, and review shelter plans in case storms intensify.
