Sedalia, Missouri – Snow will move into central and north-central Missouri late Monday morning, bringing several hours of hazardous travel from Pettis and Johnson counties up through Kirksville and Macon as accumulation builds into the evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for counties including Cooper, Howard, Pettis, Johnson, Adair, Linn, Livingston, Carroll, and Saline. Totals will range from 1 to 3 inches south near Sedalia and Boonville, increasing to 2 to 4 inches farther north toward Trenton, Kirksville, and Moberly.
Drivers on U.S. 50, U.S. 65, and Missouri Route 5 should expect conditions to deteriorate quickly after snow begins late this morning. Evening commuters in Warrensburg, Marshall, Carrollton, and Chillicothe may encounter snow-covered roads and quick drops in visibility during heavier bursts.
MoDOT urges drivers to slow down, allow extra braking distance, and give plow crews room to operate. Untreated roads, hills, and rural stretches will turn slick first as temperatures fall during the afternoon.
Snow will taper later tonight, but icy patches may linger into the overnight hours. The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 9 p.m. Monday.
