Jackson, MS – The National Weather Service in Jackson is warning residents of isolated strong to severe thunderstorms expected Friday afternoon and evening as a cold front moves across Mississippi. Forecasters say the main hazards include damaging wind gusts of up to 60 mph and hail as large as quarters.
According to the National Weather Service, the severe threat will primarily impact central and southern Mississippi, including areas such as Jackson, Vicksburg, and Brookhaven. While the overall risk level remains marginal (Level 1 out of 5), a tornado or two cannot be ruled out, particularly during the late afternoon and early evening hours.
The cold front responsible for the storms will push eastward overnight, bringing cooler and drier air for the weekend. Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware and ensure they have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially for those with outdoor plans Friday evening.
