Jackson, Mississippi – Severe thunderstorms are expected to sweep across much of Mississippi and northeast Louisiana through the early hours of Monday, threatening damaging winds, hail, and possible power outages in dozens of communities.

An earlier watch for parts of central and northeast Mississippi, including Starkville and Columbus, has been extended until 11 p.m. CDT Sunday.
In Mississippi, high-impact areas include Jackson, Meridian, Starkville, Laurel, and Yazoo City, while in Louisiana, Ferriday, Tallulah, and Bastrop are under alert. Winds over 60 mph and quarter-sized hail could down trees and damage roofs, especially along highways like I-55, I-20, and U.S. 84.
Residents are urged to stay indoors, secure loose outdoor items, and ensure flashlights and mobile devices are charged in case of outages. Emergency responders warn drivers to avoid flooded roadways and watch for fallen limbs overnight.
