Jackson, MS – Residents across Mississippi should prepare for severe weather on Wednesday, with storms expected to bring damaging winds and hail.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, storms will move into northwest Mississippi early Wednesday morning, before spreading across the rest of the state through the afternoon and into the evening. Forecasters warn that some storms could be severe, producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to the size of quarters.

The threat area includes much of central and northern Mississippi, including Jackson, Vicksburg, Philadelphia, and surrounding communities. The greatest window for severe storms is expected between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m., with northwest counties affected first, followed by central and southern regions later in the day.

The National Weather Service classifies the event as a Marginal Risk (Level 1), meaning only a few storms are expected to reach severe limits. Still, officials caution that strong winds and hail could cause damage to trees, vehicles, and outdoor structures.

Residents are urged to monitor weather updates, keep multiple ways to receive warnings, and avoid travel during peak storm times if possible.
