Minneapolis, Minn. – Travel across Minnesota could turn hazardous within the next 24 hours as a wintry mix develops Wednesday afternoon, bringing snow, ice, and rain to the Twin Cities and beyond.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, the first round of precipitation will arrive Wednesday afternoon and continue through Thursday, with a mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain. The greatest uncertainty lies across central and southeastern Minnesota, including Minneapolis and St. Paul, where small temperature shifts will determine whether roads turn slushy or icy.

Western and central Minnesota, including St. Cloud and Willmar, have the highest chance of accumulating snow, while southeastern areas may see more rain. Temperatures will hover between the upper 30s and low 40s during the day, dropping closer to freezing overnight, increasing the risk of slick roads for both the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.

A second system arrives Friday into Saturday, with another chance for accumulating snow, especially across western and central Minnesota. While impacts appear minor at this stage, even light snow could affect early Easter weekend travel.

Conditions begin improving by Sunday, but drivers should remain alert for changing forecasts as both systems evolve through the end of the week.
