Gaylord, Mich. – Northern Michigan will wake up to a cold start Monday as a frost advisory takes effect overnight, putting sensitive plants at risk across several counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, temperatures are expected to fall to around 33 degrees between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m. Monday. The advisory includes Crawford, Gladwin, Kalkaska, Missaukee, Ogemaw, Oscoda, Roscommon, and Wexford counties.

Residents in cities such as Grayling, Roscommon, West Branch, and Cadillac should plan ahead by covering outdoor flowers, vegetables, and other vulnerable plants before nightfall. Farmers and gardeners may see damage if crops and plants remain exposed to the cold.

Travel impacts are expected to be minimal, though patchy frost could settle on windshields during the early morning commute. Officials advise giving vehicles extra time to warm up and scraping glass before heading out.

The chill will be brief, with temperatures rebounding by afternoon, but additional advisories remain possible this week if clear skies return overnight.
