Lake Charles, LA – Thunderstorms are expected to intensify across southeast Texas and central Louisiana this afternoon and evening, bringing a potential for severe weather through late Saturday night.
According to the National Weather Service Lake Charles, a cold front moving into the region will collide with Gulf moisture, triggering storms capable of producing damaging wind gusts over 58 mph, hail up to one inch, and possibly isolated tornadoes. The Storm Prediction Center places most of central Louisiana under a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5), with a Marginal Risk (Level 1) extending south toward the I-10 corridor, including Beaumont, Lake Charles, and Lafayette.
Rain chances range from 50% to 80% today, with the heaviest activity expected between 6 p.m. and midnight. Rainfall totals could reach up to half an inch in some areas before the system clears out early Sunday.
Cooler, drier air will follow behind the front, with Sunday highs in the upper 70s to low 80s and overnight lows dipping into the 40s and 50s. The region should see clear skies and calm conditions through midweek.
Residents are advised to monitor alerts and have multiple ways to receive warnings overnight.
