Louisville, KY – More rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected across Kentucky through late Thursday, raising concerns about heavy rainfall and localized flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, most areas should receive between 1 and 3 inches of rain, with some isolated spots potentially seeing higher totals above 3 inches. Forecasters say storms could produce heavy downpours that increase the risk of flash flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas.

The heaviest rainfall is likely across central and eastern Kentucky, including communities around Lexington, Frankfort, and Bowling Green. Rainfall will come in waves, with scattered storms Tuesday and Wednesday followed by additional showers into Thursday.

Meteorologists have issued a slight risk for excessive rainfall during the middle of the week. Drivers are urged to watch for ponding on roads, and residents are advised to monitor creeks and streams that may rise quickly during heavier downpours.

The weather service notes confidence in forecast totals is “medium,” meaning adjustments could still occur depending on storm tracks.

Some areas may see temporary travel delays or localized flooding through late week if heavier bands of rain develop.
