LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A sharp drop in temperatures is set to bring frost and freezing conditions to much of central and southern Kentucky, with the coldest stretch arriving between early Thursday and Friday morning. Residents from Louisville to Elizabethtown and Danville could wake up to icy lawns and damaged vegetation if precautions aren’t taken overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a Frost Advisory will be in effect from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. Thursday, followed by a Freeze Watch from late Thursday night through Friday morning. Temperatures are expected to dip into the low 30s during the advisory and could fall as low as 28 degrees under the freeze watch.
The cold will affect counties including Jefferson, Hardin, Nelson, Marion, and Washington, stretching south toward Adair and Russell counties. The chill poses a risk to unprotected crops, gardens, and outdoor plumbing. Residents are urged to cover tender plants, bring potted flowers inside, and disconnect garden hoses to prevent damage.
Frost and freeze conditions are expected to ease by Friday afternoon, but another round of sub-freezing air could return this weekend if skies remain clear.
Warnings remain in effect through Friday morning.
