Louisville, Kentucky – Foggy conditions across central Kentucky and southern Indiana this Christmas Eve may reduce visibility for morning travel.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service office in Louisville, widespread fog developed early this morning across much of the region, prompting drivers to take extra precautions if traveling. Officials advise slowing down, using low-beam headlights, and allowing additional stopping distance on area roadways.
Beyond the fog, mild temperatures and intermittent light rain chances are expected to continue through Christmas Day. Forecast graphics shared by the National Weather Service indicate daytime highs generally reaching the upper 50s to upper 60s today, with some locations in southern Kentucky approaching the upper 60s.
Tonight, temperatures are expected to remain mild, generally in the 50s and lower 60s, with scattered showers possible. On Christmas Day, highs are forecast to range from the lower 60s to near 70 degrees, accompanied by lingering sprinkles or light showers across parts of the region.
Friday is also expected to remain warm, with highs in the mid-60s to low 70s before showers taper off and possible clearing later in the day, according to the National Weather Service.
The agency notes that a significant weather change is expected later in the weekend. A colder air mass is forecast to arrive Sunday night into Monday, bringing temperatures back down into the 20s and 30s early next week.
Motorists traveling early this morning, especially commuters and holiday travelers, are encouraged to remain alert for rapidly changing visibility conditions due to fog. Wet roads combined with reduced visibility could increase the risk of accidents during peak travel times.
Residents are advised to monitor updated forecasts and local conditions as the holiday weather pattern evolves.
