Louisville, KY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Louisville is warning residents across Kentucky to prepare for multiple rounds of strong to severe storms beginning today and continuing through Wednesday.

According to the NWS, storms are most likely between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. each afternoon, bringing the potential for gusty winds, frequent lightning, and small hail. Forecasters also cautioned that 2 to 4 inches of rainfall could fall in some areas, raising the risk for brief but localized flooding.

The severe weather outlook for Monday, September 22, places much of central and eastern Kentucky under a Level 2 (slight risk) for severe storms, while surrounding regions remain under a Level 1 (marginal risk). The outlook for Tuesday, September 23, continues with a marginal risk across much of the area.

Residents in Louisville, Lexington, Frankfort, and surrounding counties should remain weather aware, especially during the evening commute and overnight hours. “Some storms could become strong to potentially severe, with gusty winds being the primary hazard,” forecasters said.

Officials urge drivers to avoid flooded roadways, allow extra travel time during heavy downpours, and secure outdoor items that could be blown around by strong winds.

The unsettled pattern is expected to continue through at least Wednesday afternoon, with improving conditions later in the week.
