Wichita, KS – Residents across central and eastern Kansas should prepare for potentially severe weather late Wednesday, with strong thunderstorms expected between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, storms will mainly impact areas along and west of the Flint Hills. Forecasters warn of nickel-sized hail, wind gusts reaching 50 to 65 mph, locally heavy rainfall, and isolated flooding concerns.
The highest risk covers communities including Wichita, Hutchinson, Salina, and Winfield, with storms likely to move through during the evening commute and early nighttime hours. While the storms are forecast to remain “marginally severe,” officials caution that even brief bursts of damaging winds or hail could cause travel delays, power outages, or minor property damage.
Drivers should use extra caution on roads during downpours, and residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items before storms arrive. Updates will continue throughout the day as conditions evolve.
