Wichita, Kan. – Showers and storms will build across central and south-central Kansas tonight, with the strongest rainfall expected west of Interstate 135, raising concerns for drivers heading into Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, storm chances increase late tonight into Monday, with periods of heavy rain likely across Sedgwick, Butler, Harvey, Reno, and surrounding counties. While widespread severe weather is not expected, downpours could lead to ponding on roads and reduced visibility during commutes.
Rain and storm chances continue through midweek, with Tuesday trending drier before another round of thunderstorms develops Wednesday. By late Wednesday, stronger cells could bring heavier rainfall and isolated lightning risks to Wichita, Hutchinson, and El Dorado.
Travelers are advised to use caution on wet roads, allow extra time for morning drives, and avoid low-lying areas that may flood quickly. Outdoor activities may face interruptions through the middle of the week as storm chances persist.
Weather officials say additional advisories are possible if rainfall totals increase or localized flooding begins to develop.
