Wichita, Kan. – Torrential downpours drenched central Kansas through Sunday morning, with parts of Ellsworth County recording more than 4 inches of rain in just 24 hours. Drivers across the region faced standing water on low-lying roads as the heavy rainfall left ditches and creeks running high.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, Ellsworth topped the list with 4.02 inches, while nearby Wilson measured 3.40 inches. Kanopolis saw 3.44 inches, and Dorance reported 3 inches. Rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches were widespread, stretching from Barton to Russell counties.

The soaking rains brought much-needed relief to dry fields but also raised the risk of flash flooding, especially in areas where drainage is limited. Motorists along I-70 and U.S. 281 were urged to watch for ponding on roadways and avoid driving into flooded areas.

In Wichita, showers tapered off by midmorning, though additional scattered storms remain possible later Sunday into early Monday. Emergency management officials encouraged residents to keep devices charged and remain alert for updated flood advisories.

More unsettled weather may return to the state midweek, with additional chances for storms.
