Salina, Kansas – A magnitude 3.3 earthquake startled central Kansas residents just after 5:35 p.m. Sunday, sending brief tremors through homes and businesses south of Salina. While no injuries or major damage have been reported, the quake caught many off guard, with reports of shaking coming in from Assaria and as far north as Salina.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake was centered six kilometers southeast of Assaria at a depth of five kilometers. By Sunday evening, at least seven people had reported feeling the shaking to the USGS, with the most reports coming from Saline and McPherson counties. Emergency officials say no infrastructure damage has been identified, but urge residents to check their homes for new cracks, shifts, or gas leaks.

Those living in multi-story buildings or mobile homes should be alert to the risk of aftershocks and review basic safety steps such as moving away from windows and securing heavy furniture. Officials recommend keeping emergency contact information handy and monitoring local alerts in case additional tremors occur.

USGS teams will continue monitoring seismic activity in the region. Residents are encouraged to report any aftershocks or damage to local authorities. More updates will follow if new information becomes available.
