Wichita, Kansas – A chilly and prolonged cold pattern will continue across central and southeast Kansas this week, with temperatures remaining below normal for late January, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service in Wichita reports that while temperatures will be slightly warmer than over the weekend, cold conditions will persist. Overnight lows are expected to fall into the single digits to around 10 degrees, with morning wind chills ranging from 0 to 10 degrees, especially early Tuesday.
Daytime high temperatures across the Wichita metro are forecast to range from 29 to 35 degrees Tuesday, warming slightly to the low to mid-40s Wednesday, particularly in southeast Kansas. Cooler air returns late in the week, with highs dropping back into the mid-20s to near 30 degrees Thursday, and low 20s by Friday.
Nighttime lows will remain cold throughout the week, generally ranging from 5 to 14 degrees, increasing risks of frozen pipes, vehicle issues, and cold-related illnesses with prolonged exposure.
Forecasters note that little to no precipitation is expected, keeping conditions dry but allowing cold air to linger. Despite the lack of snowfall, refreezing and slick spots may still develop overnight on untreated roads and elevated surfaces.
These conditions may be especially impactful for early-morning commuters, outdoor workers, farmers, and students, particularly during pre-dawn hours.
Residents are advised to dress in layers, limit extended time outdoors, protect pipes, and ensure pets have adequate shelter as the cold pattern continues through the end of the week.
