Des Moines, IA – Iowans can expect a nearly perfect stretch of early October weather, with warm sunshine and mild breezes carrying through the week. After a cool start Tuesday morning, temperatures are forecast to rebound into the upper 60s and 70s, ideal for outdoor plans and early Halloween decorating.

According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, a weak system could bring isolated thunderstorms late Thursday night into Friday, mainly across southern Iowa. The chance for severe weather remains low, but residents should stay alert for quick changes and check forecasts before traveling along I-35 or I-80.

Tuesday and Wednesday will feature bright, sunny skies and highs near 68–70°F, perfect for leaf-viewing drives and pumpkin patch visits. Thursday brings slightly warmer air, topping near 70°F, before brief showers develop late in the evening. By Friday and into Columbus Day, mostly sunny skies and highs near 78°F will return, keeping central Iowa dry and pleasant through the weekend.

No hazardous weather is expected beyond the brief Thursday disturbance. Farmers, festival organizers, and commuters can all look forward to smooth, dry days ahead as the state settles into its classic fall pattern.
