Iowa – Snow, mixed precipitation, and strong winds are expected to create hazardous travel conditions across much of central and north-central Iowa from Sunday morning through early Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, Winter Weather Advisories take effect at 9 a.m. CST Sunday and remain in place through 6 to 9 a.m. CST Monday, depending on location.

In Sac, Calhoun, Crawford, Carroll, and Greene counties, including Carroll, Sac City, Rockwell City, Denison, and Jefferson, forecasters expect up to 1 to 2 inches of snow with wind gusts up to 45 mph, leading to areas of blowing snow and slick road conditions. These advisories are scheduled to expire by 6 a.m. CST Monday.

Across Pocahontas, Webster, Hamilton, Hardin, Grundy, Black Hawk, Boone, Story, Marshall, and Tama counties, including Fort Dodge, Webster City, Iowa Falls, Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Ames, Boone, and Marshalltown, mixed precipitation is forecast. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, along with a light glaze of ice, are possible. Wind gusts up to 50 mph may cause blowing snow and reduced visibility, particularly in open areas. Advisories in these counties continue until 9 a.m. CST Monday.

The National Weather Service warns that roads may become slippery, with the Monday morning commute likely impacted by lingering snow, ice, and blowing snow. Gusty winds may also result in downed tree branches.

Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and remain alert for sudden drops in visibility. Road conditions across Iowa can be checked using the Iowa 511 app, at 511ia.org, or by dialing 511.
