Des Moines, IA – Central Iowa braces for severe weather today, with heavy rainfall and potential tornado activity expected tonight.

According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, multiple storm rounds will impact the area. The first wave this morning brings lightning and heavy downpours. The second wave will arrive in the late afternoon, with threats of strong wind gusts and large hail. The most severe weather is anticipated late tonight, including damaging wind gusts, heavy rain up to 3 inches, and a conditional risk of tornadoes.

Residents should stay weather aware and prepare for possible flash flooding and severe storm conditions.
