Des Moines, IA – Central Iowa is under a severe thunderstorm watch this afternoon and evening, with potentially damaging weather conditions expected.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Storm Prediction Center, the watch is in effect from 3:20 PM to 11:00 PM CDT. The primary threats include widespread damaging winds with gusts up to 85 mph, large hail up to 2.5 inches in diameter, and the possibility of a tornado. Intense thunderstorms will develop in the moist and unstable air mass, moving eastward and organizing into a fast-moving bowing cluster capable of very damaging wind gusts and large hail.
