Indianapolis, IN – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 5 p.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday for much of central and southern Indiana, where 2 to 5 inches of snow are expected to impact both the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, the advisory includes major cities such as Indianapolis, Bloomington, Terre Haute, Lafayette, and Columbus, as well as surrounding counties stretching from Warren to Jennings.
Snow will begin late Thursday afternoon, intensifying during the evening hours and continuing overnight before tapering off by mid-morning Friday. Forecasters note that locally higher amounts are possible in heavier bands, particularly west and south of the Indianapolis metro.
Roads are expected to become slick and snow-covered, especially on untreated surfaces, bridges, and overpasses. Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check 511 for live road condition updates before traveling.
Temperatures will remain below freezing overnight, keeping icy spots into early Friday even after snowfall ends.
