Indianapolis, Indiana – A developing winter storm could bring widespread snow and hazardous travel across much of Indiana beginning Saturday morning, with impacts expected to last through Sunday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Saturday morning through Sunday evening for large portions of central, southern, and western Indiana. Snow accumulations between 4 and 7 inches are possible, though forecasters note uncertainty remains, especially near and north of Interstate 70.

The watch includes the Indianapolis metro area and surrounding counties such as Marion, Hendricks, Hancock, Johnson, Morgan, Shelby, and Hamilton, along with cities including Bloomington, Terre Haute, Vincennes, Columbus, Seymour, Bedford, and Greencastle. Snow-covered roads and reduced visibility could make travel very difficult at times, particularly during heavier snowfall Saturday night into Sunday.

Major travel corridors including I-65, I-69, I-70, and I-74 could see slick conditions, while untreated secondary roads may become impassable during peak snowfall. Officials urge residents to complete errands early, delay non-essential travel, and ensure vehicles are stocked with winter emergency supplies.

With confidence in exact snowfall totals still evolving, forecasters stress the importance of monitoring updates through the weekend. The Winter Storm Watch may be upgraded as the system draws closer, and lingering impacts could continue into Sunday evening before conditions gradually improve.
