INDIANAPOLIS – Central Indiana will wake to its first taste of wintry travel Monday as a fast-moving system spreads light snow across the region before daybreak. Forecasters warn of slippery roads and reduced visibility for the Monday morning commute, especially along major interstates and bridges.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 3 a.m. to 10 a.m. EST Monday for much of central, north-central, and west-central Indiana—including Indianapolis, Lafayette, Kokomo, Anderson, Terre Haute, and Shelbyville. Snow accumulations of up to two inches are expected, with the steadiest snowfall between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m.
The early-morning snow will make roads slick along I-65, I-69, I-70, and I-74, as surface temperatures fall to near freezing. The Indiana Department of Transportation urges motorists to slow down, allow extra time, and watch for icy bridges and ramps.
While snowfall will taper by midmorning, untreated surfaces may remain icy as skies clear and northwest winds pick up. Sunshine should return by late afternoon, with temperatures hovering in the 30s.
