INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A chilly fall night is on the way for central Indiana, where clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to dip into the mid-30s overnight tonight, from 2AM until 9AM Friday, leading to areas of frost by daybreak.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a Frost Advisory is in effect for much of central, north-central, and west-central Indiana, including Indianapolis, Lafayette, Muncie, Kokomo, Terre Haute, and Rushville. The coldest readings are expected in rural and low-lying areas, where frost formation will be most widespread.

Forecasters warn that frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation, especially for gardeners and farmers with unprotected crops. Residents are advised to cover plants, bring potted flowers indoors, and avoid watering overnight, as moisture can accelerate freeze damage. In Marion County, the frost risk is lower in downtown areas due to the urban heat island effect but remains possible in outlying suburbs.

Commuters may find light frost on windshields early Friday morning. According to meteorologists, temperatures will rebound into the 50s under sunny skies later in the day, marking a crisp but pleasant fall finish to the week.

A gradual warming trend is expected over the weekend, though another cool front could return early next week, bringing a renewed chance of patchy frost to outlying counties.
