Indianapolis, IN – Residents across nearly all of Indiana should prepare for a Freeze Warning in effect from 2 a.m. until 9 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.
The alert includes areas from Lafayette and Terre Haute to Indianapolis, Bloomington, and Muncie, where temperatures could fall to around 28 degrees before sunrise.
According to meteorologist with the NWS, frost and freeze conditions may kill sensitive vegetation and crops, and damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. The warning extends across central, north-central, south-central, and east-central Indiana, including counties such as Marion, Vigo, Greene, Madison, Monroe, and Knox.
Residents are urged to cover outdoor plants, disconnect garden hoses, and bring outdoor pets indoors overnight. Farmers should take precautions to minimize crop damage as this freeze event signals a major seasonal temperature shift across the state.
The upcoming cold marks Indiana’s first widespread freeze of the fall, signaling the end of the growing season for much of the region.
