Indianapolis, Indiana – Drivers and residents across central Indiana should prepare for periods of heavy rain and localized flooding Tuesday as storms move through the region. The risk of dangerous lightning will persist throughout the day, threatening outdoor activities and commutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, waves of showers and thunderstorms will continue this morning into Tuesday afternoon, bringing a primary threat of flash flooding to Indianapolis, Carmel, Anderson, and surrounding communities. With ground already saturated in many spots, even brief downpours could create hazardous conditions on highways including I-65, I-70, and I-465. Emergency officials advise avoiding water-covered roadways and remaining weather aware, especially during peak travel hours.

Storm chances taper off by Wednesday, bringing mostly sunny skies and a warming trend with highs in the upper 80s. However, another round of scattered thunderstorms could return late Sunday into Monday, once again raising concerns for localized heavy rain and cloud-to-ground lightning. Spotter activation is not expected at this time, but the threat of fast-changing conditions remains.

Residents should plan for rapidly changing weather this week and keep devices charged in case of power outages. The National Weather Service will issue additional advisories if severe storms redevelop.
