Indianapolis, Ind. — Central Indiana is bracing for its coldest stretch of the season as a Freeze Watch goes into effect late Thursday night through Friday morning, following a Frost Advisory already in place for early Thursday. Overnight lows are expected to drop into the lower 30s, threatening crops, outdoor plumbing, and sensitive vegetation.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees are possible across Boone, Clinton, Hamilton, Hancock, Marion, Rush, and Tippecanoe counties, with similar conditions expected across Delaware, Madison, and Vigo counties. The frost advisory remains active from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday, while the freeze threat begins late Thursday night.
Residents in Indianapolis, Muncie, Kokomo, Lafayette, Terre Haute, and Bloomington are urged to cover or bring in tender plants and disconnect outdoor hoses. Farmers across the region could face crop losses if protective measures aren’t taken.
The NWS advises that frost and freeze conditions may persist into early Friday, marking a seasonal turning point toward colder fall weather. Additional advisories could be issued if temperatures dip below forecasts.
