Indianapolis, IN – The first widespread freeze of the season is on the way for central Indiana, with a Freeze Warning in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.
Temperatures are forecast to fall into the upper 20s to low 30s, with the coldest readings expected in rural and low-lying areas. These freezing conditions could damage or kill sensitive vegetation and signal the end of the growing season for many parts of the state.
Residents are urged to cover outdoor plants or bring them indoors and ensure pets are protected from the cold. The NWS warns that frost and freeze conditions will likely be widespread by sunrise Friday before temperatures slowly rebound during the day.
Highs Friday will return to the low to mid-50s, with sunny skies expected to follow into the weekend, offering a brief warm-up by Saturday afternoon.
