Indianapolis, Indiana – Wind chills in Central Indiana are expected to fall into the single digits beginning late Monday and continue through Wednesday morning as strong gusts and Arctic air combine to create dangerously cold conditions. The National Weather Service has issued an advisory for bitter wind chills that could impact residents from Terre Haute to Muncie.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, wind gusts will strengthen to 30–35 mph Sunday night before tapering off Monday. The main concern is the extended period of sub-freezing wind chills, particularly overnight Monday into Tuesday, when “feels-like” temperatures could range from 5–15°F across the region. Indianapolis, Shelbyville, and Crawfordsville will experience some of the coldest early morning conditions this season.
The NWS advises layering up, avoiding extended outdoor exposure, and checking on vulnerable populations. Homeowners should ensure heating systems are functioning properly and that pipes are insulated as temperatures remain well below average.
While winds will gradually weaken by midweek, cold air is expected to linger, keeping wind chills low even as daytime highs inch toward the freezing mark.
