Indiana – A sharp chill is settling in across central Indiana, and temperatures are set to crash to 32°F by 2 a.m. Tuesday, putting early spring plants and morning travel at risk. The air turns noticeably colder after sunset, with a crisp breeze brushing across Indianapolis streets and open fields.

According to the National Weather Service, a Freeze Watch remains in effect from 2 a.m. through 10 a.m. Tuesday for Indianapolis and surrounding counties. Light winds and clearing skies will allow temperatures to dip to freezing, creating conditions for widespread frost and isolated slick spots on bridges and untreated roads.

Across Marion, Hamilton, and Hendricks counties, neighborhoods may wake up to a thin frost coating lawns, cars, and rooftops. Sensitive vegetation could be damaged if left uncovered. Gardeners should cover plants or bring them indoors. Drivers on I-65 and I-70 should stay alert during the early commute, especially on overpasses where brief “flash freezing” can occur.

By Tuesday afternoon, sunshine returns but temperatures struggle, topping out near 49°F. A steady warm-up follows midweek, with highs jumping to 67°F Wednesday and into the low 70s by Thursday. That warmer air brings instability, and scattered thunderstorms could develop after 2 p.m. Thursday, continuing into Friday with a 50% chance of showers.

For now, the immediate concern remains the early Tuesday freeze window. Additional advisories may follow if temperatures trend colder than expected.
