Indianapolis, IN – A second wave of storms is developing near Chicago and moving southeast into North Central Indiana this afternoon, with the greatest impact expected along the I-65 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, the storms may become strong to severe, producing gusty winds between 40–60 mph, heavy rain, lightning, and small hail. Radar shows clusters of activity rapidly building through mid-to-late afternoon.

Meteorologists warn that the storms could cause hazardous travel, particularly for drivers on I-65 and nearby highways. Short-term power outages are possible if winds bring down tree limbs or power lines.

Residents in Indianapolis, Lafayette, and surrounding areas are urged to monitor local weather alerts and remain indoors during periods of heavy wind or lightning. Outdoor plans may be impacted by the storm’s timing, as showers and strong cells are expected to continue into the evening.

The National Weather Service advises people to avoid flooded roads, secure outdoor items, and be alert for sudden shifts in weather. Radar updates will be provided throughout the afternoon as the storm line develops.
