Indianapolis, IN — Central Indiana residents should prepare for a mix of rain and snow today and Friday, which could impact travel plans. Drivers are urged to stay cautious as icy conditions are possible overnight, especially on untreated roads.
According to the National Weather Service, a rain-and-snow mix will begin this evening, transitioning to snow after midnight. While accumulations are expected to remain under an inch, patchy ice may form, creating slippery conditions for the Friday morning commute. Temperatures tonight will hover around 34°F before dropping to 32°F Friday.
Friday will bring cloudy skies and occasional snow showers early, clearing by mid-morning. Winds could gust up to 25 mph, reducing visibility at times. By Saturday, conditions improve with mostly sunny skies and a high near 33°F, providing safer travel opportunities.
Looking ahead to next week, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will bring mild temperatures but scattered rain showers. Highs are expected to reach the mid-40s both days, making for a wet but warmer holiday. Rain chances will increase Monday, peaking at 60% Tuesday.
Travelers are encouraged to monitor weather updates and prepare for delays. Use caution on roadways, and allow extra time during periods of mixed precipitation.
