Indianapolis, IN – Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are forecast to impact southeastern portions of central Indiana on Monday, with damaging winds posing the greatest threat.
According to the US National Weather Service in Indianapolis, scattered showers and isolated storms will develop throughout the day on April 14, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. The greatest risk area extends southeast of Indianapolis, including areas near Columbus, Greensburg, and Richmond. Storms are expected to remain isolated but could produce strong gusts in excess of 60 mph.
Meteorologists have placed the region under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) on the Storm Prediction Center’s severe weather scale. Uncertainty remains regarding the amount of instability available to support widespread storm development. However, forecasters urge residents to remain weather-aware in case conditions escalate.
Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items, prepare for sudden gusts, and monitor alerts throughout the day. The National Weather Service recommends having a severe weather plan in place and suggests staying tuned to local updates as timing and intensity could shift.
This storm threat comes as temperatures rise across the Midwest, increasing the likelihood of active spring weather patterns across Indiana through mid-April.
