Indianapolis, Indiana – Afternoon thunderstorms could bring heavy rain and localized flooding to central Indiana through Friday as hot, humid conditions persist across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, scattered storms will develop each day this week, especially during the late afternoon and evening hours. Areas along and south of I-70, including Terre Haute, Bloomington, and Richmond, are most likely to see rain and lightning starting Monday afternoon. Daytime highs will climb into the mid to upper 80s, nearing 90°F by Friday.
The repeated storm chances raise concerns about localized flash flooding in low-lying or poorly drained areas. While widespread severe weather is not expected, isolated stronger storms could produce gusty winds and intense downpours. Drivers are urged to use caution during evening commutes, and residents should monitor local alerts—especially in flood-prone zones.
Overnight lows will remain mild, hovering in the upper 60s to low 70s, offering little relief from daytime humidity. The unsettled pattern may ease slightly by the weekend, but more storm chances are possible into next week.
Storm warnings and advisories may be issued later this week as rainfall accumulates and instability increases.
