Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana is on alert as a weak cold front moves through the area, bringing the potential for isolated strong to severe thunderstorms tonight.

According to the US National Weather Service Indianapolis, the storms are expected to begin around 8 p.m. and continue until 11 p.m., with areas northwest experiencing activity from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. and southeast from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Residents should prepare for damaging wind gusts and the possibility of quarter-size hail.

The primary hazard posed by these storms is damaging wind gusts, which could lead to power outages and property damage. Additionally, the National Weather Service warns of the potential for quarter-size hail, which could harm vehicles and outdoor structures.

A warm but seasonal weekend is anticipated following tonight’s storms. However, central Indiana should prepare for a significant rise in temperatures next week. Highs are expected to reach the 90s, with heat indices potentially soaring into the lower 100s, posing health risks for heat-sensitive individuals and those without adequate cooling or hydration.

Residents are urged to stay informed by monitoring local weather updates and taking necessary precautions to ensure safety during these severe weather conditions.
