Indianapolis, IN – After a foggy start Tuesday, central Indiana is expected to see a return of widespread showers beginning late tonight and lasting through Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, areas south of the I-70 corridor could receive an additional inch of rainfall by 8 p.m. Wednesday. Forecast models show the heaviest totals likely over southern and southeastern Indiana counties, where stronger thunderstorms could also develop by Wednesday evening.

Meteorologists caution that while most of Tuesday remains dry, the next system could bring localized flooding concerns, especially in areas that have already seen recent rain. Commuters and travelers should prepare for reduced visibility, slick roadways, and potential delays along major highways including I-65, I-70, and I-74.

The Storm Prediction Center currently places parts of southern Indiana under a marginal risk for severe weather Wednesday. Stronger storms may produce heavy downpours, gusty winds, and isolated lightning.

Residents are urged to monitor updated forecasts and prepare for changing conditions through midweek. Outdoor plans Wednesday afternoon and evening may be impacted by showers and thunderstorms.
