Central Indiana – As dry, windy conditions settle over central Indiana, officials are warning residents of an elevated fire risk through Monday. Humidity levels are expected to dip below 30% in areas around Indianapolis, increasing the chances of outdoor fires. The National Weather Service (NWS) advises avoiding open flames and adhering to local fire restrictions this weekend to minimize hazards.

According to the NWS, temperatures on Saturday are forecasted to reach up to 66°F, with similarly mild weather expected Sunday, reaching highs of 65°F. Clear skies will give way to slightly warmer temperatures on Monday, with highs around 73°F. Relative humidity remains low, dropping to 25% on Sunday and 32% on Monday, making vegetation and other dry fuels more prone to ignition.

Foggy conditions are also a concern, particularly for drivers along I-70, where dense fog early Saturday morning reduced visibility to a quarter mile in some areas north of the highway. The NWS cautions drivers to use low beams and exercise patience in foggy conditions, especially during morning commutes. Areas impacted by fog should see improved visibility by mid-morning.

Looking ahead to next week, warmer conditions will arrive Tuesday, with highs reaching 81°F. Wind gusts of up to 40 mph are anticipated through Wednesday, increasing the risk of spreading any potential fires. Isolated thunderstorms are possible on Halloween, though most areas will stay dry through early next week.
