Indianapolis, IN – Multiple rounds of rainfall are expected to soak central Indiana over the next several days, raising the risk of moderate river flooding by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a series of storm systems will move through the Ohio Valley through Wednesday, potentially dropping between 1.5 and over 3 inches of rain across central Indiana counties. The initial weekend rain will saturate soils and raise water levels, priming the region for more significant flooding with the next system due midweek.

Counties under the hydrologic outlook include Marion, Monroe, Hamilton, Tippecanoe, Vigo, and surrounding areas. Forecasters say the early-week rain could already trigger lowland river flooding, but the second system may produce widespread minor flooding, with some areas seeing moderate impacts depending on rainfall intensity.

Residents near the White River, Wabash River, and other major waterways are advised to monitor rising water levels and prepare for possible flood warnings. The saturated ground could also lead to standing water in low-lying urban and rural areas.

The National Weather Service urges those living near flood-prone zones to stay informed and avoid walking or driving through flooded roads. Updates will continue through the weekend.
