Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana residents are urged to prepare for life-threatening cold temperatures through Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a cold weather advisory, predicting wind chills as low as 20 degrees below zero.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory takes effect at 7 p.m. Sunday and remains active until 10 a.m. Wednesday. The dangerously low wind chills could result in frostbite on exposed skin within 30 minutes. Overnight hours will see the coldest wind chills, though daytime temperatures may temporarily push wind chills above zero.

The advisory impacts central, east-central, and west-central Indiana, including cities like Indianapolis, Lafayette, Muncie, and Bloomington. Residents in affected areas are advised to wear insulated clothing, hats, and gloves when venturing outdoors. Hypothermia is a significant risk if proper precautions are not taken.

Travelers should take extra caution and prepare emergency kits for their vehicles. The NWS recommends limiting outdoor exposure, especially during overnight hours when wind chill is at its worst.
