Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana is waking up to its coldest air of the season as wind chills plunge into the teens — and even near 10 degrees in some areas — according to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.
Forecasters say strong northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph combined with temperatures in the 20s will create biting conditions through tonight and into early Tuesday. The coldest readings are expected in Bloomington, Lafayette, Kokomo, and Terre Haute, where minimum wind chills could dip into the single digits by dawn Tuesday.
“This will be the first true taste of winter for the region,” the weather service said, urging residents to pull out winter coats and gloves and to winterize outdoor hoses and sprinklers.
Conditions will remain cold through Tuesday morning before gradually moderating midweek. Officials remind Hoosiers to protect pets, pipes, and plants from the sudden drop in temperature.
