Indianapolis, Ind. – Central Indiana is bracing for its coldest stretch so far this September as nighttime lows dip into the 40s this weekend, with widespread chill expected across much of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, temperatures will fall into the 45–50 degree range across most of the region tonight, with even colder pockets north of Interstate 70 Saturday night where lows could drop into the low 40s. Lafayette, Muncie, and Kokomo are likely to see some of the sharpest overnight cooling.

Sunday night is forecast to be the coldest overall, with widespread minimums in the 41–45 degree range. While skies remain mostly dry through the coming week, a few brief showers may pass south of I-70 late tonight into early Saturday morning.

Drivers should be prepared for brisk mornings and limited visibility in spots where patchy fog forms, especially in rural valleys. Homeowners may also want to cover late-summer gardens sensitive to cooler temperatures.

The cooler pattern is expected to hold through early next week, though afternoons will still climb into the upper 60s and low 70s under dry skies.
