Springfield, IL – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 3 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday for much of central, east-central, southeast, and west-central Illinois, as a fast-moving system is expected to bring 2 to 5 inches of snow across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, snow will develop Thursday afternoon, increasing in intensity by late afternoon and evening, impacting the Thursday evening commute across cities including Springfield, Peoria, Bloomington, Champaign, and Decatur.

Forecasters warn that roads could become slick and snow-covered by nightfall, especially on untreated surfaces. Snowfall will taper off early Friday morning, but icy patches may persist during the morning commute as temperatures remain below freezing.
