Springfield, IL – Central Illinois will continue experiencing near-record warmth through the weekend before a cold front brings relief early next week, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters said Friday that temperatures will remain in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees through Monday. Isolated showers could develop Friday afternoon, but more widespread rain chances are expected late Monday into Tuesday as the front moves through.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, an elevated fire risk is expected this weekend due to dry conditions and gusty winds. Residents are urged to use caution with outdoor burning and equipment that could spark fires.
The five-day outlook shows highs ranging from 87–90 degrees on Friday, easing slightly into the mid-to-upper 80s over the weekend. By Tuesday, temperatures are forecast to drop into the low 70s to low 80s, marking a noticeable shift toward cooler fall weather.
Meteorologists note that while brief showers may occur ahead of the system, the main chance for meaningful rainfall will be with the cold front Monday night and Tuesday.
This extended stretch of heat comes on the heels of what forecasters describe as “near-record warmth,” unusual for early October. The expected cooldown is likely to be welcomed by residents across central Illinois after nearly a week of unseasonably high temperatures.
